Obituary for Robert B. Whealan

Robert B. Whealan
Robert B. Whealan
Father, Catholic, engineer, 86

Robert B. Whealan, 86, of Cedar Grove, died Saturday, April 02, 2016.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 PM at Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave. (Rt. 23) Cedar Grove NJ.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Cedar Grove with interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair.
Born in Newark, Bob grew up in Bergen County. He attended both high school and college in New York City, while continuing to live in New Jersey, but it was during a brief stint in Philadelphia that he met his future wife, Grace. Shortly after their marriage, they relocated to Cedar Grove, where he was to live for the rest of his life.
A born engineer, he prided himself in being a jack of all trades and enjoyed puzzles and mental challenges of every kind. After he retired from Marcal Paper Co. in Elmwood Park, he applied his love of all things numerical to his many volunteer commitments, chief among them tax preparation for the elderly.
He was a man of deep faith and an active member of the St. Catherine’s parish, where he also routinely volunteered.
He and his wife shared an interest in researching genealogy and family history.
Bob is pre-deceased by his two brothers and a sister.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Grace (Gallagher) Whealan; daughters, Ann Kühlers and her husband Dirk, Patricia Martel and her husband Don, and Mary Grace Whealan; and granddaughters, Rebecca, Emily, Charlotte and Clara, as well as by loving in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
Condolences and memories may be shared at shookscedargrove.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
(Additional information will be available during visiting hours at the funeral home.)
