Obituary

Edward Romeo Longo, 66, passed away peacefully at his home on November 5, 2019 following a long illness. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. at Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove. Services begin on Thurs., Nov. 14, 2019 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Cedar Grove, with interment following at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair, N.J. Memories and condolences may be shared at shookscedargrove.com.

A lifelong resident of Cedar Grove, he was deeply involved in town politics. Romeo was first elected to the Township Council in 1995, serving one four-year term, and then was reelected in 2003, serving until 2017. He served as Mayor of Cedar Grove for three terms. He held positions on the Planning Board and the Public Library Board of Trustees, as well as several committees. During his tenure, Ed worked tirelessly to preserve the small-town charm and quality of life he was afforded as a child growing up in Cedar Grove. A proud member of UNICO, he was also a lifelong parishioner of St. Catherine’s where he served as an altar boy during his childhood. Ed was a graduate of William Paterson University and, prior to his retirement, he was the Tax Assessor for Fairfield, Little Falls, and Verona. Ed’s humor, strength, and courage never faltered and he will be missed.

Ed is predeceased by his father, Romeo Longo, and his mother, Margaret (nee: De Costanza). Ed is survived by many caring, loving cousins, and his longtime friends, Werner, Bob, David, Michael, Shawn, and Michele.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741, michaeljfox.org.
